Krasnodar, September 7 – Yug Times. Russian Ministry of Nature has reportedly officially requested Prosecutor General’s Office to protect the verdure of the Sochi National Park.
The environmentalists were concerned about the news of felling of trees in the natural park. They learnt about a timber auction supposedly run at Solokh-Aul forestry.
Ministerial officials asserted that the regional authorities were delaying the procedure of requalification of this part of the national park from woodlands into protected natural lands. While the new status has not been legalized, commercial felling is officially allowed.
Earlier similar violations had been registered by inspectors of the Sochi National Park and regional branch of the Federal Nature Supervision Agency. Say, in June 2017 they recorded a fact of annihilation of 9.33 cubic metres of the wood. The assessed damages amounted at 2.3 million rubles. The case was filed with the police.
The WWF Russian Caucasus foundation also proved the fact of felling of the trees and holding of timber auctions, but the regional Ministry of Nature did not confirm this fact.
