Krasnodar, 18 October – Yug Times. The 19th World Festival of Youth and Students opened in Sochi last Sunday. It will last until October 22.
The opening ceremony was a mass and bright event. The festival summoned more than 20,000 participants from 180 countries throughout the world, and about 30,000 volunteers, organizers, technical staff, guests and speakers — altogether more than 50,000.
Ten thousand spectators came to the opening ceremony held in the Bolshoi Ice Palace, with even more watching the concert on huge outdoor screens.
Those happy to see the ceremony in the palace said that they were very impressed by its musical and decorative accompaniment, and most of all by Russian President Vladimir Putin’s speech.
Addressing the participants of the festival, Mr. Putin noted that it is the youth that may change the world and bring forward their innovative ideas.
“Create your future, try to change it, make it better. You can do all; the main thing is to move forward,” said Mr. Putin. “I announce the 19th World Festival of Youth and Students opened. Good luck to all!”
To the applause of the audience, the forum began. According to its guests, for them the festival means a chance to test themselves, get acquainted with Russia, and learn something new. The participants will try their hand in various discussions, in arts, science, sports and other spheres.
